Batwara 1947 is a tale that can not be forgotten from the hearts of the people who witnessed the partition of India. 15 million people migrated from Lahore to India during the politically charged period and struggled to have shelters. The only hope is the train to Pakistan in search of a new life.
The Film Batwara 1947 follows a Muslim family who witnessed the partition of India, faced chaos, and were in search of a new life and hope, migrating from Lucknow to Lahore after the partition lines were drawn. Later, they are allotted a Haveli left behind by a Hindu Family.
The story takes a turn when the family finds an elderly Hindu woman still living inside the haveli. She refuses to leave and claims the house as her own. The conflict between the displaced family and the woman slowly opens a larger story about grief, belonging, fear, and shared humanity during one of the most painful chapters in Indian History. After learning that a Hindu lady was living in a house in Pakistan, massive flames ignited. The emotional drama explores displacement, communal tensions, and the devastating human cost of leaving one’s home behind.
Batwara is releasing worldwide in theaters on August 14, 2026. Batwara 1947 is a historical drama featuring stars Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karam Deol, Abhimanyu Singh, and Ali Fazal.
