Imagine the scariest person in your house wearing your mother’s face. That is the chilling idea behind Other Mommy, the new supernatural psychological horror film starring Jessica Chastain.
Directed by Rob Savage, the movie is adapted from Josh Malerman’s 2024 novel Incidents Around the House. Chastain plays a mother fighting to protect her seven-year-old daughter, Bela, from a terrifying entity that looks exactly like her. Jay Duplass plays the father, while Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, Sean Kaufman, and Karen Allen round out the cast.
The film’s biggest strength is its simple but deeply unsettling premise. A child trusts her mother more than anyone, so what happens when something sinister begins imitating her? Chastain reportedly takes on a dual role as both the real mother and the “Other Mommy,” making the threat feel painfully personal.
More About Other Mommy
Other Mommy began filming in Dublin in May 2025, with horror heavyweight James Wan producing through his Blumhouse–Atomic Monster banner. Patrick Jonsson composed the music, adding to the film’s creepy, emotional atmosphere.
Universal Pictures released the film in theatres on October 9, 2026. While critics gave it largely negative reviews, the movie managed to perform well at the box office, proving that audiences were still curious about its mother-versus-monster story.
For now, Other Mommy is primarily a theatrical release. There has been no official confirmation about its OTT platform or digital premiere date. Some reports suggest a digital release could arrive soon after its theatrical run, followed by streaming on Peacock, but nothing has been locked in yet.
