It’s official: Rashmika Mandanna will play legendary Carnatic singer MS Subbulakshmi in a new biopic. The film, titled MS – A Legacy On Screen, will be directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. The project launches on September 16, 2026, at The Music Academy in Chennai, marking Subbulakshmi’s 110th birth anniversary.

For weeks, fans speculated who would take on the iconic role. Now, Geetha Arts has confirmed Rashmika as the lead. The launch event begins at 6 pm on Wednesday, with Kamal Haasan attending as chief guest.
The biopic is jointly produced by Geetha Arts, Rockline Entertainment, and Bunny Vas Works. Earlier reports linked Sai Pallavi and Rukmini Vasanth to the role, but scheduling and final decisions favored Rashmika.
MS Subbulakshmi, a Bharat Ratna awardee, was born on September 16, 1916, in Madurai. She grew up in a musical family, gave her first public performance at 11, and trained under legends like Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. She also acted in films like Sevasadanam and Meera before passing away in 2004. With Gowtam Tinnanuri directing and Anirudh composing, the film aims to blend authenticity with cinematic appeal.

Rashmika has a packed lineup. She’ll next star with Vijay Deverakonda in the period drama Ranabaali, releasing October 16, 2026. After that, she headlines the action film Mysaa, directed by Rawindra Pulle, set for November 27, 2026. Buzz also links her to Allu Arjun and Deepika Padukone’s Raaka, though it’s unconfirmed.
