Aaron Sorkin is back in the world of Facebook, and this time the story is darker, louder, and far more uncomfortable. The Social Reckoning revisits the platform not as a scrappy college startup, but as a global powerhouse facing one of its biggest internal crises.
The film is a companion piece to 2010’s The Social Network. Instead of tracing Facebook’s rise, it focuses on the 2021 leak involving whistleblower Frances Haugen and Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz. Their work pulled back the curtain on internal research and raised serious questions about the company’s choices.
Mikey Madison plays Haugen, while Jeremy Allen White takes on the role of Horwitz. Jeremy Strong steps in as Mark Zuckerberg, replacing Jesse Eisenberg from the original film. The cast also includes Bill Burr, Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, and Billy Magnussen.
More About The Social Reckoning
Sorkin writes and directs the film, bringing his signature fast dialogue and moral tension to a story about power, secrecy, and accountability. Jeff Cronenweth, who worked on The Social Network, returns as cinematographer, giving the film a familiar yet sharper visual edge.
The Social Reckoning released in theatres on October 9, 2026, through Sony Pictures. It is currently playing exclusively on the big screen, which makes sense for a film built on tense conversations, courtroom-style confrontations, and Sorkin’s crackling screenplay.
